Oh hello, dear traveller an adventure you seek...but are you prepared a labyrinth so bleak?
You shan't go alone, no need to worry, I would think on your feet so I would hurry.
You'll be guided my friend, by a feline most foul, you must solve his riddle or throw in the towel.
He's sneaky, cruel, and always lies...keep track of the time as it will fly.
You'll need to remember you're always late, ignore the rabbit or you'll share his fate.
Now, of course, to discuss my grade, give me a 100, cause making this rhyme is a task difficult made.
Creepy this smile but all worth the while, this grin always sneaky with fill with lies
This website assignment, you did create, I suspect of course to show us the ties.
Adobe, this product, I have come to hate, together with Wix, this assignment was great!
For a final, this assignment time flies! The semester is closed not a moment to late!
For this assignment, I really wanted to do hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. The idea was that I would do a sarcastic narrator type aesthetic. But that felt contrived and a little... on the nose. The idea would be to present pages as part of the story but the issue I ran into was: I didn't want to tell a linear coherent story. The guide isn't linear, but wouldn't with the idea I wanted to tell. So the issue became how to be ridiculous but also enable a fun story.
“For a moment, nothing happened. Then, after a second or so, nothing continued to happen. - Douglas Adams
I thought...I'd have to be a little bit...mad...
That was it! As a kid, I love the story of Alice in Wonderland (Through the Looking Glass) and the movie Labyrinth because they were absurd. Ridiculous, and most of all I could make web pages so absurd!
When you think of Alice or David Bowie muppets, and a time when movies could be weird by story not done normally today. Sure the book and movie were linear but they had this open-ended feel, that would work for a website (of choice and adventure).
I also wanted it to be "winnable" but focus on the sneaky and (very much a liar) (ne'erdowell kitty).
Now all I had to do was give the player/visitor the concept of a weird/wacky adventure where would know its gonna be weird.
In a web-venture I have to give you a choice tree or better yet... an asshole kitty give you... the ILLUSION of CHOICE...
“Imagination is the only weapon in the war with reality.” -Cheshire Cat
Now I have a working psychological idea: The ILLUSION of CHOICE would be the perfect way to do this art. I have to make it fun, but allow the viewer a chance to embrace it's not unlimited, it's not random, but it can be fun.
But YES NO LEFT RIGHT 1/2 all are so simple, I decided RIDDLES! Not only are riddles fun, but it would also allow me to have text and graphics, be vague and enhance the story model.
Riddles are also generally something you can associate with various versions of Alice and Mazes, they fall together in a conceptual way that means I do less work, for more effect: plus riddles once solved are a fun little dopamine rush that makes that ILLUSION of CHOICE all a little more valid.
Alice: What road do I take (what choice do I make)? Cat: Well where do you want to go? Alice: I dont know? Cat: THen it doesnt matter...does it?
I clearly couldn't do "EASY" riddles so I wanted to make it seem HARDER than it was: so rhymes and riddles all (well mostly) custom made. Why bother with JUST RIDDLES??? When you think about another psychological concept to broaden the site is, talk smart! I picked TIME as a sub-topic to explore and made it a little fun sub (and nonsense) topic to explore.
Alice: How long is forever? Rabbit: Sometimes just one second
Of course, this ECHOS my slight reference to time in the adventure...
Finally, I was admittedly lost after the Hitchiker guide idea. I know above I said I figured it out, but it was actually a music video I saw that helped me go to this idea. Pentatonix covered a song called "COME ALONG". Coupled with watching The Labyrinth recently, it all came together to make, this fun little web-venture.
Don't let moments pass along and waste before your eyes March with me and the borogoves Come with me and the slithy toves And never ask us why
We'll be here when the world slows down And the sunbeams fade away Keeping time by a pendulum as the fabric starts to fray There's no such thing as time to kill No time to throw away
If you knew time like I did, you wouldn't waste it -Mad Hatter
I enjoyed your class! Very thoroughly so!
The whole semester was hard but engaging and thorough
I wish you the best I mean that for real tho!
